A proper 16th century village pub right on the Bledington green — two minutes' walk from Glebe Cottage, and one of the reasons we love it here.
If you only do one thing during your stay besides seeing the cottage itself, make it dinner at the Kings Head. It's genuinely one of the best village pubs in the Cotswolds, and it happens to be on our doorstep.
Originally a cider house, the Kings Head Inn dates back to the 16th century and sits right on Bledington's village green, overlooking the stream and the resident ducks. Inside there's an open fire, a friendly bar, real ales and a genuinely warm atmosphere — the kind of pub that's the heart of the village rather than just a place passing through it. It was named the Good Pub Guide's national Inn of the Year in 2020, and Gloucestershire Dining Pub of the Year in 2018.
The kitchen takes its food seriously without being stuffy about it — a seasonal, largely organic menu with real depth of choice, built on locally sourced ingredients: Aberdeen Angus beef from a family farm in nearby Fifield, fish delivered daily from Cornwall, and smoked produce from Upton Smokery in Burford. Expect proper, hearty British cooking alongside a few more unusual dishes for those who want to try something different.
The Kings Head also has 12 boutique bedrooms if you have friends or family wanting to stay nearby but not with you at the cottage — a mix of cosy rooms above the inn and quieter, more spacious courtyard rooms, each with its own bathroom, WiFi and tea and coffee facilities.
